Life Balance Wheel

How balanced is your life? Are any key parts of your life being neglected? Your home life and finances could be great but you may be neglecting your friendships. You may be building a promising and fulfilling career but ignoring your need for recreation. You may feel, on the surface, that everything is going perfectly but you know that something feels lacking in your life without being able to identify what that is.

The Life balance wheel, below, is a simple exercise to help you to identify which parts of your life to focus on changing for the better. Rate each section from 1-10, 10 indicating complete satisfaction, 0 indicating total dissatisfaction. Record each score on the chart, and then connect each score to the next to see how round and balanced your wheel is.

It is important to note that each life aspect needs to be assessed as an average summary over time. For example, assessing ‘fun & recreation’ as a snap-shot during a time-frame when you are at work may give it a falsely low score. So, rate each one as an average over a two to four week time period.

Another point to note is that you may want to replace the key words. It could be that ‘contentment’ does not mean much to you and you would find it more meaningful to rate your overall ‘well-being’, or you may want to change ‘energy’ to ‘motivation’ or ‘enthusiasm’. If you have become aware of your life values (what you hold to be of the greatest importance in life), you could replace the key words with each of your values and rate how well you are honouring them.

Example: How smooth would the journey be with this wheel?
